About Scoliosis
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves sideways, forming a “C” or “S” shape. It most commonly develops during adolescence. In Hong Kong, around 2 - 4% of teenagers are affected, with approximately 80% of cases being idiopathic (without a known cause). Severe scoliosis may affect one’s appearance, breathing, cardiopulmonary function, and nervous system.

In Hong Kong, the Department of Health’s Student Health Service conducts regular scoliosis screenings for schoolchildren, helping with early detection and timely referral.
